Life is a Matter of Choice! Many people succeed or fail in life not because of the circumstances of their lives nor is it because of their social status. Those who fail do so not because some enemies are out there pursuing them. They failed not because that well known personality called – S A T A N - succeeded in stealing their destiny from them. Indeed foolish people easily attribute their woes, not to themselves but to this imaginary personality called Satan who ordinarily have no iota of control over their lives.
To clear the air on the fact that it is not Satan for instance that cause our downfall but ourselves through the choices we make in life.
My Pastor, Bunmi Elesho of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (Light of Life Parish) recently took his listeners through the most relevant passages in the Bible (two of which will be cited as we make progress) in this article. He postulated that we are a product of our choices. Hear him: ‘The choices we made yester-years are the result of the status we are today. The choices we are making today will produce the status we are going to attain tomorrow. Therefore all about what happens to us is about the choices we make”. The writer shares his views without question!
Some youths in our society who held on to the so called 'satanic' theory, unfortunately have jettisoned the truth that they are their own real enemies. They have refused to move an inch towards progress and eventual good success that God has ordained for them. The greatest calamity that can befall anybody is to do nothing about his life himself. Precisely this is what they do!
There are many instances that people were enjoined to make choices in the Bible. Notable amongst them were Deuteronomy 30:19 where Moses said “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!
Joshua said to the Israelites: “But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (Jos.25:15)
Our secular life is divided into seven stages: these are: birth, education, career (including creating wealth), marriage (including parenting), retirement, death, history.
In all these situations, we are bound to make choices and take decisions. Every decision (or action) we make concerning them is a choice. Every choice we make is a decision and every decision has its own repercussions – blessings or curses! (To be continued)
